Welcome to another edition of Top Ten Tuesday which is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish! This weeks top 10 are “Top Ten Favorite Books With X Setting”
For this I picked Top Ten Favorite books with a Gothic Setting. My top ten are listed below in no particular order.
1. Masque of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin: So delightfully creepy and eerie which such a lush Victorian setting.
2. The Darkangel by Meredith Ann Pierce: Such a lovely gothic book! Dark castles and angels what more could you ask for.
3. The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shepherd: Insanity, illegal tampering with genetics, Victorian sensibilities, and dark creepy surgery wards. Not to mention a little forbidden romance. Such a wonderful read.
4. Dracula by Bram Stoker: The first truly gothic book I ever read. Do I really need to explain this one?
5. The Dark Unwinding by Sharon Cameron: An insane uncle and mysterious estate, Victorian sensibilities and a sweet love affair. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
6. The Iron Thorn by Caitlin Kittredge: A girl destined to go insane struggles to survive in the clockwork city of Lovecraft. That is until she is called back to her Uncle’s mysterious house and is forced to deal with the mysteries she finds there.
7. The Restorer by Amanda Stevens: A graveyard restorer, mysterious ghosts, and a handsome detective. This book is full of lush graveyards and mysterious dark things.
8. The Black Book of Secrets by F.E. Higgins: A young boy flees his evil parents only to stumble into a town where the Pawnbroker’s currency is deep dark secrets. This has a dark and mysterious setting filled with dark secrets.
9. The Labyrinth by Catherynne Valente: A girl struggles with madness in a dark labyrinth full of unexpected monsters. Abstract, beautifully written, and absolutely breathtaking this reads like a crazy gothic dream.
10. Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey: Very dark and gothic and creepy. This is about a young boy who apprentices to a Monster Hunter and learns and sees many dark and disturbing things along the way.
