This is the ninth installment in the Chi’s Sweet Home series. I actually liked this volume a bit better than the last. There is a bit more of a story here and I enjoyed watching Chi and Cocchi explore their friendship.
After the Yamadas decide Chi should be an inside cat Chi is very upset because she promised Cocchi she would come and play. This is followed by a rather humorous part where Mr. Yamada tries to compromise with Chi and tries to walk her on a leash. When Chi escapes the dreaded leash, she tries to make it as an outside cat. She is starting to kind of understand what Cocchi goes through on a day to day basis. Meanwhile Cocchi is trying to understand what a “home” is. Cocchi gets a nice surprise at the end of the story.
I especially enjoyed the leash scenes in this book, I have tried to walk a cat on a leash…I think most cat owners give that a try at some point. What happens is so hilarious and is portrayed in this book just perfectly.
Watching Chi and Cocchi play and try to understand each other’s worlds was cute and funny.
This continues to be one of my 7 year old son’s favorite series to read. The illustrations are cute and done in soft pastels, the illustration is easy to follow. I love how all of the cats have their different “voices they use”.
Overall another well done installment of Chi’s Sweet Home. This is a great manga series that I would definitely recommend to cat lovers. It’s great for all ages and a super fun read.
