This is the 13th volume in the Claymore series. The 24th volume released in the US this May. This was another well done and action packed volume in this rather complex fantasy shounen manga.
In this volume Clare and crew are heading out to find out what happened in the 7 years they lived in seclusion in the North. Audrey and Rachel are fighting Riful when Clare and her companions stumble upon them. Meanwhile the Organization sends Miata and Clarice out to hunt Galatea, but Miata is increasingly unstable.
As with previous volumes there is a ton of fighting Awakened Ones. There was more plot development in this book than in previous ones. We get to see more about Miata, the Organization’s greatest (and rather disturbing) weapon.
There are so many Claymore involved at this point that I have some trouble keeping track of them. There is a synopsis of “the story thus far” at the beginning of the book, which is awesome. I wish there was also a quick “who is who”. Just maybe their pictures and names. All of the Claymore look somewhat similar so I have trouble remembering who is who.
The action scenes are very well done. The story moves forward some.
Overall this was a decent installment in this series. For a long time this was one of my favorite manga series along with the Hellsing manga series. The spot has now been taken by Vinland Saga (definitely check out Vinland Saga if you are a manga fan). This series is still going strong. Recommended to those who are fans of action-based fantasy series.
