Welcome to the 4th post in my “Best of 2016” series. These are the urban fantasy novels that I read and really loved in 2016. I read a ton of urban fantasy and paranormal books this year.

Charley Davidson Series by Darynda Jones
This has been an incredibly fun and humorous urban fantasy series. The characters are amazing and the supernatural elements are really well done. These books are action packed and have me laughing out loud all the time.
Book 1: First Grave on the Right
Book 2: Second Grave to the Left
Book 3: Third Grave Dead Ahead
Book 4: Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet

Splintered series by AG Howard
This series has on been on the list multiple years in a row. I loved this compilation of three stories that expand on this wonderful extension of the Alice in Wonderland story.
Splintered Book 4: Untamed

Steel and Stone Series by Annette Marie
This is the absolute best YA urban fantasy series I have read in a long time. The characters are wonderful and the layers of realms fascinating. This was a wonderful completion of this series and I am so sad that it’s over.
Book 5: Unleash the Storm
———————————————————————————-
Cainsville Series by Kelly Armstrong
This is a mystery heavy urban fantasy series that is on this list for the second year in a row. I am enjoying the mystery and all the fae elements to the story. It’s been a great read and I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.
Book 4: Betrayals

The Incryptid Series by Seanan McGuire
This continues to be a very fun and entertaining urban fantasy series by McGuire. I really enjoy the action, the characters, and the general craziness of these books. This series has been on this list for multiple years.
Book 5: Chaos Choreography
———————————————————————————-
The October Daye series by Seanan McGuire
Yes, another Seanan McGuire series. This has been an amazing series that has been on this list for many years. The series just keeps getting better and better. I love all the mythology and fae in this book; it’s a beautifully written and intricate urban fantasy.
Book 9: A Rose-Red Chain
Book 10: Once Broken Faith

The Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews
This wonderful urban fantasy series has been on my “Best Of” list forever. I feel like the last couple books have been winding down a bit, however it has still been a wonderful series that I really enjoy. Wonderful world-building and characters.
Book 5.4: Magic Gifts
Grey Wolf, Book 1: Magic Stars
Book 9: Magic Binds

Velveteen Vs series by Seanan McGuire
Yet another Seanan McGuire series. This series was originally published as installments on McGuire’s blog. It’s a very fun and unique series that deals with both superheroes and corporate domination. Even with all the social aspects explored, this series manages to be engaging, heartfelt, and a ton of fun.
Book 1: Velveteen Vs. the Super Junior Patriots
Book 2: Velveteen vs. the Multiverse
———————————————————————————-
The Reckoners by Brandon Sandersion
This has been an awesome science fiction action packed story full of superhero awesomeness. This book did an excellent job of wrapping up the series and was absolutely engrossing.
Book 3: Calamity
———————————————————————————-
Darkest London series by Kristen Callihan
The Darkest London series has been a very well done historical paranormal romance series. This book finished up the series and did so in a wonderfully fantastic way. I would recommend the whole series if you like historical paranormal romance.
Book 7: Forevermore
———————————————————————————-
Sandman Slim series by Richard Kadrey
The Sandman Slim series has been on this list a number of years as well. This continues to be a gritty and stylish urban fantasy series. It’s very different from a lot of UF out there, is action-packed, and has a lot of momentum. I would recommend for those who enjoy gritty UF.
Book 8: The Perdition Score
———————————————————————————-
Soulwood series by Faith Hunter
This is a new UF series by Hunter that is set in the same world as the Jane Yellowrock series. I really loved the first book in this series (although I thought the 2nd book wasn’t as good). It’s very well written and a lot of fun to read about a heroine that isn’t as kick-butt as Jane but is powerful in her own way.
