“Escaping the port city of Vritannis is no easy task, for even the finest ship is useless if it can’t be reached, and a horde of Kushan monsters stalks the city’s docks. Led by a powerful necromancer who has mastered both the elements and the monsters of the deep, this hideous brigade may be too much for Guts the Black Swordsman and his companions to handle, even if Guts and Schierke are able to join forces and control the awful wrath of the Berserker armor. And will it even matter, if the Kushan emperor makes Guts an offer he can’t refuse?”
This is the 31st volume in the Berserk series. The story didn’t make as much progress in this book as in previous books, but watching Guts and Schierke work together to fight the Apostle was kind of cool.
In this volume Guts and crew are running to the harbor to catch a boat out of Vritannis. Once they get to the harbor they run into a horde of demons and a powerful mage. Guts and Schierke are forced to work together, fusing Schierke’s magic with Guts armor, in order to best the mage. That’s when an Apostle shows up and it’s an Apostle that’s against the Band of the Hawk.
Right as Guts and the Apostle are trying to come to an understanding, a legion of winged demons from the Band of the Hawk attacks and it’s all out war between the Kushan Apostle and the Band of the Hawk. Guts and crew have still not gotten on their boat to find the elf home!
This volume was a ton of fighting. The illustration remains well done. I do wish the story had made more progress.
Overall this was a good continuation of the Berserk series. I am eager to see what happens once Guts and crew finally get to continue on their journey.
