“A library apprentice, a sorcerer prince, and an unbreakable magic bond…
The Solaris Empire is one conquest away from uniting the continent, and the rare elemental magic sleeping in seventeen-year-old library apprentice Vhalla Yarl could shift the tides of war.Vhalla has always been taught to fear the Tower of Sorcerers, a mysterious magic society, and has been happy in her quiet world of books. But after she unknowingly saves the life of one of the most powerful sorcerers of them all–the Crown Prince Aldrik–she finds herself enticed into his world. Now she must decide her future: Embrace her sorcery and leave the life she’s known, or eradicate her magic and remain as she’s always been. And with powerful forces lurking in the shadows, Vhalla’s indecision could cost her more than she ever imagined.”
This is the first book in the Air Awakens series. There are five books in this series. Previous to reading this book I had read Kova’s “The Alchemists of Loom” and thought it was okay but not great. I really ended up loving this book a ton. It was engaging and hard to put down.
This book introduces you to the very likable and engaging Vhalla who is an apprentice in the library. We quickly find out that Vhalla is no normal librarian but may have magical powers and may actually need to be trained as a sorceress.
There is some excellent world-building here, some action, a sweet budding romance, and a lot of magic. I enjoyed the characters a ton and thought the story was very engaging and easy to read.
Overall I really ended up enjoying this YA fantasy a lot. I can’t wait to read the second book in the series, Fire Falling. I would highly recommend this to those who enjoy YA fantasy with a touch of sweet romance.
