“After trumpets of the apocalypse proclaim the fall of humanity, vampires arise from the shadows to rule the earth. Yuichiro wants just one thing—to get revenge by killing each and every vampire.
Yuichiro has undergone the strange and dangerous ritual to acquire Cursed Gear—demon-possessed weaponry that is humanity’s only hope for combating the vampire scourge. But times are dangerous, and instead of getting to celebrate his newfound power, Yuichiro and his friends are given their first mission—head to Shinjuku and investigate vampire activity. Unbeknownst to him, his best-friend-turned-vampire, Mika, is headed for the same place…”
This is the 3rd volume in the Seraph of the End series. There was actually quite a bit of action in this volume but I found it strangely slow. This was my least favorite volume in the SotE series so far and I am struggling to pinpoint why exactly. Maybe it was because there was less story progress and more battles?
Yuichiro and crew journey to their first vampire execution only to find that the city of Shinjuku is under attack. Little does Yu know that his best friend from childhood, Mika, is fighting on the vampires’ side.
The illustration is very well done and I enjoyed seeing Yu and crew go on their first vampire execution. There are some interesting new characters added and it was intriguing to see the world beyond the city where Yu underwent training.
I do absolutely love that there is a “story thus far” summary at the beginning and that all the characters and their histories/stories are also listed. This is so helpful to the reader and I really appreciate it being included.
Overall I enjoyed this volume of SotE but not as much as previous volumes. I do look forward to seeing what happens next and plan on continuing the series.
