“FEATHER DUSTER
Imogene Hale is a lowly parlormaid with a soul-crushing secret. Desperate, she takes work at a local vampire hive, only to fall in love with the amazing lady inventor the vampires have imprisoned in their potting shed.
LEATHER GOGGLES
Genevieve Lefoux is heartsick, lonely, brilliant, and French.
With culture, class, and the lady herself set against the match, can Imogene and her duster win Genevieve’s heart, or will the vampires suck both of them dry?”
This book features Lefoux and Imogene. It takes place after the Parasol Protectorate series but before the Custard Protocol. This is the first book in the Supernatural Society series which is a series of novellas about some of the side characters from Carriger’s Parasol Protectorate world. The second book in this series is Biffy’s story and is titled “Romancing the Werewolf”. I enjoyed this book immensely.
Genevieve Lefoux has always been one of my favorite characters from the Parasol Protectorate series. I was delighted to read a book where she finally gets her “happily ever after”. I often wondered how she ended up with Imogene (in the Custard Protocol series) and this is the story of that. The story starts a few years after Lefoux destroys a good portion of London with her mechanical octopus.
This is definitely primarily a romance but there are still some crazy politics, interesting inventions, and a number of cameos from Garriger’s other series. The romantic scenes are well done and creative and I enjoyed reading them. This is very heavy on GLBT themes and very explicit.
Overall I loved this book and thought it was well done. It does an excellent job of filling in Lefoux’s storyline in the time between the Parasole Protectorate and The Custard Protocol. It was a fun and easy read but very romance heavy. Recommended to fans of Genevieve Lefoux especially!
