“An alternate Victorian world controlled by clock towers, where a damaged clock can fracture time—and a destroyed one can stop it completely.
A prodigy mechanic who can repair not only clockwork, but time itself, determined to rescue his father from a Stopped town.
A series of mysterious bombings that could jeopardize all of England.
A boy who would give anything to relive his past, and one who would give anything to live at all.
A romance that will shake the very foundations of time.”
This is the first book in the Timekeeper trilogy and I enjoyed this book a lot. The world-building and mythology around time are both really well done. I enjoyed the characters as well too. I plan on continuing the series.
Danny is a protege clock mechanic who is very young for his station and has suffered an awful accident that leaves him nervous about doing the very work he loves. When he is sent to a small clocktower to resume his work after his recovery, he meets a mysterious boy. At first he thinks the boy is a new clock mechanic apprentice, but then he finds out the boy is much more.
I loved the world and all the history built around the gods of time. It was incredibly interesting how the clock towers ran time and anything that went wrong with them caused life to actually stutter or stop.
The characters were well done too. They were all complex and interesting. Danny is amazing and I loved Colton as well. The romance between them was sweet and poignant.
Overall I really enjoyed this book a lot, it was much better than I had hoped. I would definitely recommend if you like alternate history with heavy steampunk elements and some romance, I really liked this one and plan on continuing the series.
