“The truth of what happened three years ago comes to light, as the past Ciel sought to erase is thrust in his face. The revelations shake the Phantomhive manor to its foundations, and even Sebastian, the resident devil, can only look on in admiration at the consummate gamesmanship at play. The Phantomhive blood, it would seem, runs thick with the thirst for vengeance…”
This is the 28th volume in the Black Butler series and is a great addition to this series. While I have loved this whole series, the last couple books have been very intense and very awesome! This review contains spoilers for those who haven’t read vol 27.
In the last volume we found out why Ciel isn’t really Ciel and how that all happened. We learned how it is possible for the real Ciel to even be alive. And we watch as Ciel (the Ciel we’ve known as Ciel) loses everything to his older brother and is forced to flee. However, younger Ciel is no pushover and will find a way to take back what he believes to be rightfully his.
I was really impressed with how a lot of storylines from previous volumes came together in this volume. Of course, the illustration is absolutely amazing as always. The story had me on the edge of my seat the whole time and I am desperate to read the next volume!!! This volume isn’t quite as dark as vol 27, but it is still fairly dark.
Overall, I really really enjoyed this and am so excited to see where the next book in the series takes us. This is one of my top five favorite manga series; the others are Fullmetal Alchemist, Vinland Saga, Ancient Magus Bride, and Berserk…okay I really loved Hellsing too but that one is done and I love The Girl from the Otherside as well. I guess my point is, this is a long running series that has remained really really solid and I am still loving it.
