“I’ve said it before, but sometimes I’m a bad person. I cheated on my twelfth grade math final, I’ve run countless yellow lights, and I gossip about how hot my kickass best friends are. (Good thing my job as a guild bartender doesn’t require moral perfection.)
But there’s bad, and then there’s bad. And I’m not sure which applies to a certain dark druid/wanted criminal/reluctant friend of mine. His transgressions include black-magic dealings, kidnapping, and murder, and he’s about to add “revenge-fueled killing spree” to his resume—if I don’t stop him.
Should I stop him?
He and his nemesis are gearing up to tear each other apart, rogues and vultures are converging with their sights on the spoils, and the guilds that would normally stomp them into the ground are under attack. We’re on the verge of an all-out criminal turf war, and my time to decide is almost up.
Who’s the real bad guy … and do I dare stand in his way?”
Series Info/Source: This is the sixth book in the Guild Codex: Spellbound series. I borrowed this through Kindle Unlimited to read.
Story (4/5): This was a highly entertaining addition to this series . Ezra’s time is running out, Kai has been tracked down by his fiance and Zak has been imprisoned by the MPA. What else could go wrong? There are lots of changes in this book and the pace is non-stop. I also loved the powerful artifact that Tori gains. Most of the story focuses on Zak and his conflicts, which were first brought up in the second or third book of this series. I think this was the best book in the series so far.
Characters (5/5): I loved that Zak was back in the story, he’s a great character. I felt like Tori had a lot of character growth as well and really enjoyed the developments between her and Ezra. Marie does an awesome job with characterization and I love the characters in this series.
Setting (4/5): The story takes place mostly in Vancouver and like previous books the setting really doesn’t have much impact on the story. It’s well done but not the focus.
Writing (5/5): I always thoroughly enjoy Marie’s books. She does an awesome job with characterization and action scenes. The pace is always breakneck and I always find her books completely engrossing. This book was no exception to that, I loved it and whipped right through it.
My Summary (5/5): Overall this was my favorite book in this series so far. I absolutely loved it and loved that it focused around Zak. I enjoyed that Ezra’s story continued and enjoyed some of the new magical artifacts that Tori acquired. The story was fast-paced and engaging and I loved every second of it!
