“I thought I understood power.
My parents taught me that magic attracts equal danger, and everything I’ve seen since becoming a demon contractor confirms it. I’ve witnessed how power twists and corrupts–and I’ve tasted power no human should wield.
I thought I knew greed.
Ambition and avarice drove my family into hiding. My parents died for someone else’s greed. I’ve never hunted anything in my life, but now I’m hunting their killer–with my demon’s help.
I thought I’d seen evil.
But with each step closer to my parents’ murderer, I’m uncovering a different sort of evil, piece by hidden piece. I’ve stumbled into an insidious web that silently, secretly ensnares everything it touches. My demon and I came as the hunters…
…but I think we might be the prey.”
Series Info/Source: This is the third book in the Guild Codex: Demonized. I borrowed this book on my Kindle through Kindle Unlimited.
Story (5/5): Zylas and Robin are continuing to hunt down Claude and trying to find a way to get Zylas home. It’s a very intense and action packed story that I completely loved. We get to see new demons and new evil mages. I love that Ezra comes into the story as well. This story is woven more and more tightly with the Guild Codex: Spellbound series, so I would definitely recommend reading these series in the order suggested by the author. I think the only thing I wasn’t crazy about was how the first few chapters recapped the events in the last Guild Codex: Spellbound book but from Robin’s POV.
Characters (5/5): The characters are the bread and butter of this series, they are amazing. I enjoy Zylas and Robin loads more than I enjoy any other character in this world. The push and pull between them is amazing and I also enjoyed that there was a bit of romance in this one as well. The chemistry between Robin and Zylas is amazing and I love watching Zylas learn about the world around him. As a bonus Ezra is in the story a lot too.
Setting (4/5): This book mostly takes place in Vancouver again which was fine. The setting really isn’t the point of these stories.
Writing/Drawing Style (5/5): I am a huge Marie fan-girl at this point, so not much to say here that I haven’t said a million times before. Marie does an amazing job creating a fast-paced and highly entertaining story. The characterization and action is amazing. The witty dialogue and humor will make you laugh out loud at times. It’s a very well balanced blend of magic, action, romance, mystery, and humor.
My Summary (5/5): Overall this was just an amazing book, I have loved all of the Guild Codex books but this one was by far my favorite across all the Guild Codex series. It is incredibly fast-paced and fun and I am a huge fan!!! I can’t believe there’s only one more book in the Guild Codex: Demonized…I absolutely can’t wait to read it!
