“The smashing conclusion to the second year of the Apocalypse. Everything turns in on itself. The snake eats its tail. The old eat the young.”
Series Info/Source: This is the sixth volume in the East of West series. There are ten books total in this series. I borrowed this book from my library.
Story (4/5): The Chosen are finally brought together to follow the oracle Orion, but things don’t go as planned. Death is reunited with his son and the other Horsemen of the Apocalypse are reborn in thei mature state.
This volume was kind of like watching a train-wreck. You just know things aren’t going to go well when the Chosen are brought together. I loved the scenes with Death’s son and the scenes between Death and his son.
Characters (4/5): Again a lot of jumping around here. The scenes with the Chosen were especially packed with people and a bit hard to follow. However, spending time with Death’s son and watching Death and his son interact made up for all the rest of it…sooooo well done.
Setting (4/5): I feel like a broken record here, but lots of jumping around between scenes again and it’s a bit hard to keep track of where you are. Still enjoy the world-building and the structure of the world overall.
Writing/Drawing Style (4/5): This series continues to be well drawn with lush color throughout. We occasionally get some notation on the top of a page as to where we are, but again that isn’t always the case and sometimes you have to just piece together where you are. This is generally well done but could have been better organized. I do enjoy where the story is going.
My Summary (4/5): Overall this is another good installment in this series. The story is moving forward and there are some very well done scenes in here. I would recommend it if you enjoy apocalyptic western fantasy types of graphic novels. Just be prepared to do a lot of paging back and forth through this to keep track of what’s happened and where you are. I plan on continuing to read this series since I am getting them from the library and enjoy them well enough.
