“An evil spell has been cast on the Queen of Maar and her Captain of the Guard will do anything to reverse it. Their only hope lies on an island half a world away—a place known in myth as Isola, land of the dead.”
Series Info/Source: This is the first book in the Isola graphic novel series. I got this book as a gift for my birthday.
Thoughts: This was an okay fantasy adventure read. The illustration is beautiful and very well done. However, the way the story starts is confusing and hard to follow. I figured out what was going on as I got further into the story (almost halfway through the book). I expected the story to pick up from there but it stayed pretty basic and ended up being somewhat boring.
In the end I was impressed with the beautiful artwork and incredibly disappointed in the confusing and lackluster story. I don’t plan on continuing the series.
My Summary (3/5): Overall this was a confusing story that progressed into a simplistic plot. The illustration is stunning but the story is awkward. I don’t plan on continuing the series and was disappointed.
