2021 Resolutions – How Did I Do?
So…this year was better than last year but still kind of a mess for me. We almost purchased a second residence but it fell through. Then we ended up deciding to get solar panels for our new house and purchase an electric car instead. On top of that I decided to start looking for a new job and ended up switching jobs in the last quarter of the year. It was hectic and, while it wasn’t a bad year, I am not sorry to be heading into 2022.
See an update on my resolutions below. It was a mixed bag for sure.
Personal Resolutions Are:
1. Acquire Less “Stuff”
- Do not acquire more than three new clothing items a month. This includes review clothing items from Amazon Vine. If I acquire something I must get rid of something.
- Do not acquire more than three new nail polish colors a month.
I didn’t do great on the above. I acquired way too much clothing this year still, I get a lot of clothing for review through the reviewing I do through Amazon and that really threw my numbers off. I didn’t have a single month where I only got three items of clothing. I did better on the nail polish; I met my goals on that for 7 out of 12 months. One thing I did great on was cost control; I hit my goal for monthly spending on “me” items (books, clothing, nail polish, etc) and feel very proud of myself for doing that.
2. Stay Healthy
- Do at least an hour of exercise (where my heartrate is over 120bpm) a day.
- Do some form of weightlifting at least 3x per week.
- Eat healthy food when I am hungry. Would like to try a couple months eating a plant based diet to see how it goes.
I did great on the above. I definitely hit the first bullet point. I exercise for at least an hour a day, more often two hours. I haven’t been doing much pure weightlifting but have been doing a lot of strength training with my body weight. So I would say very successful on the top two goals.
As for eating health that was kind of all over the place. I go through long stretches where I eat very healthy and then kind of fall off the wagon for a bit. I am okay with that. I do eat a lot more plant based than I used to, but my family isn’t into that…so dinners are usually meat based. My schedule was very erratic for the first part of this year because of the constant changing from working at home to going into the lab and that screwed up my eating some.
Blogging Resolutions Are:
1. Continue doing more bookish videos on YouTube on different topics
I did pretty darn good on this. I would say for about 60% of the year I hit two videos a week and for 80% of the year at least one video a week. This is something I will continue to work on for 2022. However, given everything that went on this year I am giving myself a gold star on this.
2. Read less books this year
I was again successful in dropping my reading a bit: 221 books this year versus 248 books in 2020. I will continue to try to pry myself away from reading a bit more so that I have time to do other activities such as exercising, volunteering etc.
