“An escaped spider, the unexpected arrival of an Imperial Russian Prince, the senseless assassination of a powerful figure, a shocking attack on the supposedly invincible Warden of Texas, Catalina’s boss… And it’s only Monday.
Within hours, the fate of Houston—not to mention the House of Baylor—now rests on Catalina, who will have to harness her powers as never before. But even with her fellow Prime and fiancé Alessandro Sagredo by her side, she may not be able to expose who’s responsible before all hell really breaks loose.”
Series Info/Source: This is the sixth book in the Hidden Legacy series, the third and final book in the trilogy featuring Catalina Baylor. I borrowed this on ebook from my library.
Thoughts: I was incredibly excited to read the final book in Catalina’s story and this book definitely met my expectations. It is pretty much non-stop action from beginning to end and I absolutely loved it. Every time I read an Andrews’ book I am reminded what awesome urban fantasy should be!
This book dives right in. The Warden of Texas has been attacked, another powerful magical figure is murdered, an expensive spider is lost and an Imperial Russian Prince wanders in to help (kind of). Catalina is a designated Warden and all of this falls on her plate at once. Not to mention she has finally purchased a large property for House Baylor to call their home and is trying to get settled in there. Alessandro is supportive and by her side for everything even as his own family issues start to rear their ugly head.
This was perfect. I loved the magic, the plot, the characters, and all the action. Catalina is hard-working and incredibly smart and strategic throughout. She has an excellent support network in her family and allies and all of them are pushed to their limits when battle comes to the House of Baylor. The action was seriously non-stop and the plot was fast-paced and complex; I had trouble catching my breath at points. There were a couple very well done love scenes between Catalina and Alessandro but romance definitely wasn’t a focus in this book.
This wraps up Catalina’s trilogy in the Hidden Legacy series very nicely and it actually wraps up the whole series fairly well. There are some hints of a future book involving Catalina’s younger sister, Arabella, but that hasn’t been confirmed and I could see it releasing as a novella or something later.
My Summary (5/5): Overall I really loved this book. It wraps up the Hidden Legacy series and Catalina’s trilogy perfectly. This was incredibly engaging and easy to read. The action and magic were non-stop and I loved it all. I would highly recommend this whole series to paranormal/urban fantasy fans. I am hoping there is just one more book for Arabella..or maybe even just a novella.
