“One incredible weekend in Maine, and Beckett Porter is officially a distracted man. He’s not unfamiliar with hot and heavy flings. He knows how it goes. But Evie wove some sort of magic over him during their tumble in the sheets. He can’t stop thinking about her laugh, her hand pressed flat against his chest, her smiling mouth at his neck, her eyes, her legs.
So when she suddenly appears on his farm as part of a social media contest, he is confused. He had no idea that the sweet and sexy woman he met at a bar is actually a global phenomenon: social media influencer Evelyn St. James. When she disappears again, Beckett resolves to finally forget her and move on.
But Evelyn St. James has a problem.
Feeling disconnected from her work and increasingly unhappy, she’s trying to find her way back to something real. She returns to the last place she was happy, Lovelight Farms and the tiny town of Inglewild.
It has absolutely nothing to do with the hot farmer she spent two incredible nights with—nothing at all.”
Series Info/Source: This is second book in the Lovelight series. I borrowed this on audiobook from my library.
Thoughts: This second book wasn’t nearly as good as the first book in the series but it was still a well done and heartwarming contemporary romance. This didn’t have a side mystery like the first book which I missed. It also wasn’t as laugh-out-loud funny as the first book in the series. It was still decent and I continue to enjoy the town of Inglewild.
This story starts the spring after the first book in the series ends. It involves the story that was hinted at in the first book between Beckett and Evelyn (the social media influencer that came out to the farm). This book was pretty much a flat out romance between Beckett and Evelyn. There is a side story about Evelyn trying to find happiness as her interest in being a successful influencer wanes. There is also a very subtle side story about a duckling that Beckett finds, but this is pretty much introduced at the beginning and then dropped until the very end.
None of the side stories here were as interesting as the mystery in the first book. This book just felt like a very formulaic contemporary romance. Romance-wise pretty much the same things happened as in the first book but they weren’t as funny. All the issues here are because of the two main characters not communicating with each other and that got old quickly.
The above being said, I continue to enjoy the Inglewild setting and how supportive the community is to each other. Beckett and Evelyn were decent characters. The romance scenes were well done and steamy. This just wasn’t the complete package for me like the first book was, just not enough plot.
My Summary (3.5/5): Overall this was an okay addition to the Lovelight series. I didn’t think it was nearly as engaging and interesting as the first book. There isn’t a mystery here to help keep the reader engaged and there isn’t nearly as much humor…..those were two aspects of the first book I really loved. I do continue to enjoy the small town setting and the romance between the two main characters was fine. I am on the fence about whether I am going to read the third book in the series.
