“All children are told fairytales. Some are epic adventures with high stakes and exciting twists, while others are tales of pitiful princesses trapped in boring towers pining for their Prince Charmings to come and rescue them. Growing up, Cherry always hated those stories. Why didn’t the princesses just get up and rescue themselves? Little did she know that her own fate would take an ironically similar turn. Because now, here she is. Stuck. In a tower. Turns out, when a dragon holds you hostage, he doesn’t just let you get up and leave.
Who knew?
And just when Cherry thinks she sees hope on the horizon, that hope is smashed to bits by—you guessed it—another damn dragon.”
Series Info/Source: This is the third book in the Mead Mishaps series. I borrowed this on ebook from my library.
Thoughts: This is another cute and fun book in the Mead Mishaps series. I love that this book takes us to Cherry (Cin’s missing sister) and that we get to learn her story. The interactions between her and Dante are hilarious. I do have some issues with the insta-love that goes on here, but this was still a fun and cute diversion. If you enjoyed the first two books in this series, you will enjoy this one as well.
Cherry is being held in a tower by a stupid old dragon. When another dragon arrives, Cherry sees an opportunity to drug the second dragon (Dante) and escape. Unfortunately for her, the drugging doesn’t go as planned and Dante (even in his drugged stupor) realizes Cherry is his fated mate and bites her (basically marrying her) right away . Now Cherry is in the demon lands with a possessive male dragon that thinks she is his wife…things get even more crazy from there.
This was another quick and fun read with some very explicit sex scenes. This story has some pretty huge issues, but if you take them all with the tongue-in-cheek attitude they are meant, you can overlook them and just enjoy the ride.
I do struggle with the insta-love in these books, and this one was especially bad for that. I also struggle with the fated mate premise being used to explain away both the insta-love and the dominating male behavior. The subtle undertones of the female really wanting something even though she doesn’t know she does can feel a bit yucky at points. However, I do believe this is all done in a very tongue-in-cheek manor and that in the end it is usually the female character that gets the upper hand.
These books have incredibly thin world-building and the plot is just barely there. However, they makeup for this with witty dialogue, fun characters, hot sex scenes, and hilarious situations.
My Summary (4/5): Overall I enjoyed this book and, if you enjoyed previous books in this series, I think you will too. It is a quick, fun, sexy read. The characters are cute and quirky, the sex scenes are fun and steamy, and the situations the characters get into are ridiculous. The world-building is thin here, as is the plot, but this book is so cute and funny it can get away with it. The book is hard to put down and engaging. I would recommend to those who like humorous, sexy, fantasy romance with fun characters and are okay with thin world-building and a very romance driven plot.
