No sooner does she set foot in the quirky village of Pin Cherry Harbor to claim her inheritance, than the handsome sheriff catches her standing over a corpse. Desperate to prove her innocence, she’s forced to accept help from her granny’s entitled cat and a spirit from beyond the grave.

Series Info/Source: This is the 1st book Mitzy Moon Mysteries series. I got this on audiobook from Audible.com.
Thoughts: This is the first book in the Mitzy Moon Mysteries and I got this on audiobook to listen to. I was looking for a light-hearted paranormal mystery that was short since I don’t drive as much as I used to but still occasionally have to take 3-4 hour drives. This fit the bill for what I was looking for. It is a cute paranormal mystery. The characters are generally likable, if lacking depth. The mystery was cute, if a bit too predictable. I think I enjoyed Mitzy’s granny and her crazy cat the most in this book.
Mitzy is living paycheck to paycheck and barely making rent when she gets a surprise, she has inherited a bookstore. As her current situation quickly declines (she loses her job and is behind on rent) and she decides this new bookstore sounds like a good idea and skips out of town. She heads out to Pin Cherry Harbor to confront a sexy sheriff, accusations of murder, and a bookstore with both a large cat and a very dead but opinionated granny.
Everything about this was okay but not great. It’s kind of funny and cute, but also kind of boring. The mystery is there, but is predictable. I personally didn’t like many of the characters in here. Mitzy was too irresponsible, she’s an ex-foster system kid trying to make ends meet but puts a lot more emphasis in partying than trying to make her own situation better. The sheriff is to judgey and didn’t have a lot of depth. The best characters in the book were the dead granny and her cat. I do love that Mitzy is finding a place and family for herself.
This was fine to listen to when I didn’t have anything going on. I had to drive about 5hrs and this audiobook was about that length, so I was able to finish it on my drive which was nice. The narration is fine and easy to follow. I did buy this as a three pack since that is how the audiobook was sold, so I have the next two audiobooks in the series to listen to. I will probably go ahead and listen to them because I have them. Will I seek out the remaining 18 books to read (there are 21 in the series)? Probably not. Maybe the characters and town will really grow on me in the next couple books and I will be enthralled by this series. Right now I am a bit under awed though.
My Summary (3/5): Overall this was okay, it was a nice quick listen while driving. I didn’t love Mitzy as a character, she was just too irresponsible and a bit too ditsy for me. However, I did enjoy the granny’s ghost and her cat. I thought the mystery was a bit too simple. While this was cute at points, I didn’t find it particularly funny. I have the next two books and a couple more 4 hour drives coming up, so I will probably go ahead and listen to them. Maybe I will absolutely fall in love with this series as it continues, but right now I am pretty ambivalent about it.
